  2. GNU FreeFont Credits
  3. ====================
  4. This file lists contributors and contributions to the GNU FreeFont project.
  5. * URW++ Design & Development GmbH <http://www.urwpp.de/>
  6. URW++ donated a set of 35 core PostScript Type 1 fonts to the
  7. Ghostscript project <http://www.ghostscript.com/>, to be available
  8. under the terms of GNU General Public License (GPL).
  9. Basic Latin (U+0041-U+007A)
  10. Latin-1 Supplement (U+00C0-U+00FF)
  11. Latin Extended-A (U+0100-U+017F)
  12. Spacing Modifier Letters (U+02B0-U+02FF)

  16. * Yannis Haralambous <yannis.haralambous AT enst-bretagne.fr> and John
  17. Plaice <plaice AT omega.cse.unsw.edu.au>
  18. Yannis Haralambous and John Plaice are the authors of Omega typesetting
  19. system, <http://omega.enstb.org/>. Omega is an extension of TeX.
  20. Its first release, aims primarily at improving TeX's multilingual abilities.
  21. In Omega all characters and pointers into data-structures are 16-bit wide,
  22. instead of 8-bit, thereby eliminating many of the trivial limitations of TeX.
  23. Omega also allows multiple input and output character sets, and uses
  24. programmable filters to translate from one encoding to another, to perform
  25. contextual analysis, etc. Internally, Omega uses the universal 16-bit Unicode
  26. standard character set, based on ISO-10646. These improvements not only make
  27. it a lot easier for TeX users to cope with multiple or complex languages,
  28. like Arabic, Indic, Khmer, Chinese, Japanese or Korean, in one document, but
  29. will also form the basis for future developments in other areas, such as
  30. native color support and hypertext features. ... Fonts for UT1 (omlgc family)
  31. and UT2 (omah family) are under development: these fonts are in PostScript
  32. format and visually close to Times and Helvetica font families.
  33. Omega fonts are available subject to GPL

  44. * Valek Filippov <frob AT df.ru>
  45. Valek Filippov added Cyrillic glyphs and composite Latin Extended A to
  46. the whole set of the abovementioned URW set of 35 PostScript core fonts,
  47. <ftp://ftp.gnome.ru/fonts/>. The fonts are available under GPL.
  48. (The Cyrillic range was since replaced by another font.)
  49. Latin Extended-A (U+0100-U+017F)
  50. * Wadalab Kanji Comittee
  51. Between April 1990 and March 1992, Wadalab Kanji Comittee put together a
  52. series of scalable font files with Japanese scripts, in four forms:
  53. Sai Micho, Chu Mincho, Cho Kaku and Saimaru.
  54. The font files are written in custom file format, while tools for conversion
  55. into Metafont and PostScript Type 1 are also supplied. The Wadalab Kanji
  56. Comittee was later dismissed. The resulting files were once found on the FTP
  57. server of the Department of Mathematical Engineering and Information Physics,
  58. Faculty of Engineering, University of Tokyo. Some of these are available at
  59. <http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/fonts/wadalab>

  62. * Young U. Ryu <ryoung AT utdallas.edu>
  63. Young Ryu is the author of Txfonts, a set of mathematical symbols
  64. designed to accompany text typeset in Times or its variants. In the
  65. documentation, Young adresses the design of mathematical symbols: "The
  66. Adobe Times fonts are thicker than the CM fonts. Designing math fonts
  67. for Times based on the rule thickness of Times = , , + , / , < ,
  68. etc. would result in too thick math symbols, in my opinion. In the TX
  69. fonts, these glyphs are thinner than those of original Times
  70. fonts. That is, the rule thickness of these glyphs is around 85% of
  71. that of the Times fonts, but still thicker than that of the CM fonts."
  72. TX fonts are are distributed under the GNU public license (GPL).
  73. <http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/fonts/txfonts/>.

  77. Angelo Haritsis has compiled a set of Greek Type 1 fonts, once available as
  78. as a tarball named greekXfonts-Type1-1.1.tgz.
  79. The glyphs from this source have been used to compose Greek glyphs in
  80. FreeSans and FreeMono.
  81. Angelo's licence says: "You can enjoy free use of these fonts for
  82. educational or commercial purposes. All derived works should include
  83. this paragraph. If you want to change something please let me have
  84. your changes (via email) so that they can go into the next
  85. version. You can also send comments etc to the above address."
  86. Greek (U+0370-U+03FF)
  87. * Yannis Haralambous and Virach Sornlertlamvanich
  88. In 1999, Yannis Haralambous and Virach Sornlertlamvanich made a set of
  89. glyphs covering the Thai national standard Nf3, in both upright and
  90. slanted shape. The collection of glyphs have been made part of GNU
  91. intlfonts 1.2 package and is available under the GPL at
  92. <ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/intlfonts/>.
  93. Thai (U+0E00-U+0E7F)
  94. * Shaheed R. Haque <srhaque AT iee.org>
  95. Shaheed Haque has developed a basic set of basic Bengali glyphs
  96. (without ligatures), using ISO10646 encoding. They are available under
  97. the XFree86 license at <http://www.btinternet.com/~shaheedhaque/>.
